Also giving out rep doesn't get rid of any of your rep. Think of it like karma points. You give people good karma, that way someone can be like, "oh hey this guys got good rep, he must either be nice or know what he's talking about". And then someone else spouts off some crap and you're iffy about it, look at his rep and if it's bad you can maybe be a little wary of it, it all depends on how the members of the board use the rep.
Also, if you go into your control panel you'll notice it lists your recent rep, if you look next to the rep (on the left side) there's a box with a color
green means the person that gave you rep is someone who has a high rep power
gray means the person has almost no rep power (probably new to the community, or gets equal amount bad and good rep).


I'm not sure on red cause I've never seen it, but I think that even if you get positive rep if the person has a bad reputation history than it will show up as red. Again, not sure on this.

that is some confusing shit! I've seen simpler user initiated systems used on other vb forums... I just dont get ours...

simple:
The more you post the stronger your rep is that you give other people.
The more you get repped the stronger your rep is.

no i think you have 98 rep points but your rep power is 18 (?) from what i understand, your rep power determins how influential you are if you give other people rep

and sharius ignore everything he had just said in that post above yours its wrong you only gain rep if someone gives you not if your staff, or if you post alot... he is really confused about what this is

Lemme explain rep to you thru the way I see it.



^^ That's the settings in our AdminCP, and as you can see, being an Administrator or a Moderator has no effect on rep, except when you first get moved into that group, you get a higher reputation power.

User Reputation in its simplest form is a ranking of your user's benefit to your forum. Its basis comes from the opinions of all of your forum users that choose take part in it.

Users gain and lose reputation based on how their posts are scored by other forum participants. Users with the ability to affect reputation, will either give or take aways points by approving or disapproving with a post's content.
