edit:listen these tutorials are great but none of them explain stuff like getting a mini now playing or making a part of a diffrent menu pop up in the submenu (like ipod info). these tutorials dont tell us the things we need to know in order to make really cool hacks.

israel's right, the point of the forum would be to give (somewhat) live help, like a hotline or... a hotline. It would answer questions that neither tutorials, a wiki, or Ask Jeeves can answer.

How do you think people learn more? When they infer and get to the answer themselves? or when someone just tells them what to do in order to get to the answer?

EMC is right. If you want to learn how to hack iPods, my suggestion to you is to aimlessly mess around with the firmware. That's how I started. You don't have to worry about damaging your iPod because it's nearly impossible to brick it by editing scheme resources.

It's not bricked. I just dropped it and broke the hard drive. All it needs is a replacement drive and it'll work fine again
And not to sound rude or anything, but this is an example of a problem one might face when trying to teach someone about the firmware. I said that you can't brick your iPod by modding scheme resources, and you respond by essentially telling me I'm wrong, even though I'm the one with the experience. Again, I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just using this as an example. If you want to learn then you shouldn't be dismissing the advice of people who know more on then subject than you currently do.

beans, I absolutely agree that we'll learn more on our own, aimlessly, but what I think we all want is to be pushed toward meaningful hackings. Plus, things that can't be done in iPodWizard, like hex and what-not. So yes, you're right, but we want mentors.
