Different PS3 models

The 60GB uses the Emotion Engine (actual hardware) for PS1 and PS2 backwards compatibility which will allow you to play about 97% of all PS1 and PS2 games.

The 80GB uses software emulation and only allows you to play about 80% of all PS1 and PS2 games.

In other words, you'll be able to play more PS1 and PS2 games on the 60GB than on the 80GB.

The 40GB has NO BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY AT ALL therefore you can't play PS1 and PS2 games.

No its discontinued. Along with the 20gig, atleast it is in the states.

Well first of all, are you buying a fake or real one? Anyways, if it's real, it's probably going to end up costing much more.

You have to check if it's PAL or NTSC. It won't change anything for blu-ray games because they're region free. If it's NTSC, it will read US DVDs and blu-ray movies. If it's PAL, it won't.

well i have a DVD player so im not worried about that, if blueray games are region free then im good, but what about PS2 games? if its PAL will it play US PS2 games?

If the PS2 is PAL, it won't read US PS2/PS1 games. The region is still there for anything else except for blu-ray games.

so i would have to get a mod chip or buy japanese games? are the games from japan actually in japanese or are they just locked so they cant play on US consoles?

EDIT: then again it would be pretty pricey to buy all my games from japan

Yeah because I go to Japan each month to check out PS3 games. I really don't know man.

Meh your better of buying a PS3 in the US. It will save you so much trouble and money.

Also since they used emulation in the 80GB, doesn't that keep the PS3's temperture down than using hardware?
