Question Hacking for CDMA

I currently have Verizon and don't have any plans what so ever of changing to AT&T. Verizon announced that mid-next year they will allow compatible phones to be activated even if outside their network. I know that Verizon uses CDMA and AT&T and the iPhone use GSM. Is there currently or possibly will there be a way to change/hack the iPhone to allow it to use CDMA? Or will I just have to settle for the LG Voyager? Thanks in advance.

PS: I know this is quite early for a question concerning something that won't happen for a few months but it would be nice to know or hypothesize for the future.

I'm assuming that to get an iphone to use CDMA you would need to replace the radio equipment in the phone. Not a task I think many people want to do, so unless you go outside of the country or get T-Mobile or AT&T, then the Voyager is for you. I've read that in something like 5 years though, the iphone might get CDMA. There's always then...

Yeah my cousin has the Voyager. It all well and good; the main plus for the Voyager is the tactile QWERTY keyboard. But I still would prefer the iPhone. I also read that the AT&T/Apple contract ends in 5 years so that would go along with what you said. They might make it CDMA. Oh well. Darn VZW for not accepting the offer from Apple. If you hear anything new PM me. Thanks!

But how would that help? VZW doesn't use sim cards and it still would only recognize the GSM network.

Even if you got the CDMA chipset in the iphone, the bootloader itself wouldn't recognize it, so besides a new chipset, a whole new os/bootloader would need to be made so one could change the settings (CDMA phones' numbers are programmed on the phone itself, whereas that is what a SIM is for on GSM networks). I must admit, it would be cool to see someone successfully convert an iphone to CDMA.

The iPhone is much better than the voyager in many ways. first of all it's faster (it lags a bit when browsing the internet extremely annoying to me...) and the screen is smaller. Why would you want to get a phone like that if it has a small screen? Just get an envy, voyagers are crap. especially with the stupid antenna..
