Default nano wont turn on

hiho guys
today a friend gave me his ipod nano 1st gen 4gb. he said it wont turn on because it felt on the ground (the ipod was in a case)
so i connected it to the pc (via usb) and its saying "please wait. very low battery and its loading"(the backlight is off like diskmode). sometimes the ipod reboots but it just shows the apple logo and then it switch back to the "please wait blah blah".
then i connected it to a wall charger (not the original from apple) and o_O it turned on and i could use it and the ipods battery is full. i waited a minute and tried to connect it to the pc.. didnt work
i tried it again but this time in diskmode... didnt work

could it be that the connection from the battery to the mainboard broke or fell off? or maybe the whole battery is broken?

what do you think? and dont say "throw it away and get a new nano" or somethin like that xD

maybe there you can check everything (the disk) in diagnostic mode, but i don't know anything about that diagnostic mode, just how to get in...
