Default iPod Linux/ Rockbox Tutorial!

My Tutorial on Installing Linux/Rockbox for Winpods
THIS IS FOR 5.0/5.5/ Nano (1st Generation) Ipod USERS ONLY FOR WINDOWS! These different generations are in one tutorial just some with different URLS. EMAIL ME AT kennyweiss@comcast.net or AIM me at hustlerdude13 for other generation help. I CAN HELP! BE aware these instructions are not that stable or I am not sure of exactly installing them on 5.0 or Nano but it can be done. For 5.5 this is exactly what you do. I am not responsible for any damage you do to your ipod. If it breaks restore it should work if it doesn’t work boo hoo I warned you.

1a: Ipod Linux: (5.5 generation users). First directly load your ipods firmware in disk mode in IPW. (DO THIS FIRST). If it doesn’t work put it into disk mode normally. After in disk mode, go here http://miche.aqua-gero.com/5.5g/ click/download 5.5gipl zip. Save it to your desktop and then extract it to your desktop. If your iPod is connected start the installer in the folder we downloaded. It should start immediately and you should notice it installing. Give it 5-10 min. to install on your iPod. After the installation, unplug your iPod and it should reboot then check out iPod Linux and make sure everything is working condition. If it doesn’t work, post below with your email address and AIM screen name so I can assist you and give you some alternate installers so we can get it on your iPod one way or another. If it works reboot your iPod (Menu/Select HOLD) and go into disk mode by clicking on it on the boot loader (blue screen). Then skip the 5.0/Nano Linux instructions to continue your rockbox installation.

1B: Ipod Linux: (5.0/ nano generation users). First directly load your ipods firmware in disk mode in IPW. (DO THIS FIRST). If it doesn’t work put it into disk mode normally. After in disk mode, go here http://miche.aqua-gero.com/rb/ this installer SHOULD install both Linux and rockbox on your iPod but this hasn’t been tested. Or use this http://miche.aqua-gero.com/ez/ this will only install iPod Linux. Use either one. Save it to your desktop and then extract it to your desktop. If your iPod is connected start the installer in the folder we downloaded. It should start immediately and you should notice it installing. Give it 5-10 min. to install on your iPod. After the installation, unplug your iPod and it should reboot then check out iPod Linux and rockbox or just iPod Linux and make sure everything is working condition. If you used the installer that installs both IPL and Rockbox skip the rockbox installation if you installed only with Linux move on to the rockbox installation. (THESE HAVEN'T BEEN TESTED BUT SUCCESS HAS BEEN MADE FOR BOTH).

2. ROCKBOX: MAKE SURE YOUR IPOD IS IN DISK MODE! Go here (FOR BOTH GENERATIONS Videos and nano) http://build.rockbox.org/ click the iPod video picture if you have any type of iPod video except 80GB. If you have a nano, click the iPod nano picture. A zip file should appear. Download that file to your desktop. Then extract that zipped file to the root of your iPod. Then unplug and rockbox should be on your boot screen. If it does not appear, either post below or try the LINUX installation again because you might have downloaded the 5.5 for the 5 or vise versa. Nano same thing kind of. Make sure you read the 1st step carefully in Linux.

These instructions on to get DOOM to work and ROMS are only for rockbox.

3. DOOM (NANO, 5th, 5.5): To get doom working, you will need a couple of things. First connect your iPod in disk mode. Go to the root and click the folder .rockbox then inside their, make a folder called doom. Then go here (I AM PRETTY SURE THIS IS NOT AGAINST THE RULES SINCE IT IS SHAREWARE) http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/PluginDoom download rockdoom.wad and doom1.wad. One is a zip and the other is a file. Put the file in the doom folder. Then, extract the doom1.wad zipped folder to your desktop. Then take the .wad file or doom1.wad to the doom folder as well. Boot up in rockbox click browse plugins and click doom and then click PLAY GAME. ENJOY. For other doom wads which can not be spoken here email me at kennyweiss@comcast.net trust me there are better things than shareware EMAIL ME! I have the best addons so you do not even have to look for them (which can be hard)

4. ROMS (NANO, 5th, 5.5): Download rockboy? That is not even possible it is a built in viewer. To get it working, you need to find GAMEBOY or GAMEBOY COLOR roms. Make a folder in the root of your ipod called roms then just simply copy/paste your downloaded roms to that folder and when you boot rockbox you will click roms and start the game very simple. If you want to make the screen bigger, flick the hold switch on/off then click options then click screen options and lastly click SCALED. Then go back and see the difference. If you need roms or a websites that can not be spoken here which you should email me at kennyweiss@comcast.net.

5. Do not understand? Need help installing? Well I am willing to IM you back/forth and give you online instructions step by step on my time. SO if you need help in general.. post below. If you really need help or it involves roms or wads email me at kennyweiss@comcast.net or AIM me at hustlerdude13. I will help you! NO MATTER WHAT. If you need help with the ipod photo or any other generations I can help just email me!

Nothing can happen to your iPod unless your plain stupid and get mad and throw it against the wall there for breaking it into a thousand peices, then your good and have nothing to worry about. Nothing can happen to your iPod using Rockbox or iPod Linux though. So if your attempting to install this; Good Luck!

You have to had the line to your loader.cfg

I don't know what the code is off the top of my head. But I think it's something like this,

Rockbox @ (hd0,1)/rockbox.ipod

I tried the 5.5g installation and it didn't work for me. The installer said finished, and when i disconnected my ipod it just went to the normal ipod menu.

Try to reboot your iPod by holding in Menu plus the center button for five seconds.
