So i have successfully installed ubuntu on a partition on my PC and i want to experiment with different distros so i figured my iMac has a 250GB HD so i might as well make some partitions and get started. So will linux run on an iMac, i was thinking about trying linux mint

| Developer Wannabee Mod ![]() | i mean... just tell boot camp in your mac you'll install windows... it will tell you to partition which you do... and it will tell u insert windows cd and click finish... well you do what it says but with the linux cd... it will reboot with the linux installation thing... you follow the steps... and install in the (Boot Camp) partition... you know have linux... of course nothing like wireless or isight or whatever won't work... just your mouse and keyboard... then get linux drivers for your mac and install them instead of using the leopard cd which is windows only... i haven't tried it but... it must work

There's an alternative to bootcamp called Refit, which works perfectly to show linux partitions as well. Bootcamp DOES work with linux, but it wont show up in the startup disk section as a bootable device. After installing and setting up linux, you can press and hold the command key, and you'll get bootcamp options Mac and Windows. Select Windows, and Linux will boot right up. I've got it all working with Ubuntu. You'll need a couple of partitions, one for / and one for swap I'll advice you to create another partition during install on /home/ so that if you ever decide to clean up linux, swap distributions or what have you, all your user info is safely in a seperate partition
