Credits?

I've got two questions about credits,

1. Why do credits get removed when you get banned or get an infraction?!? Its really annoying.
2. What's the point of credits?

Credits get removed from your account when you get an infraction that's 1.5 times the amount of points in the infraction.

The credits at this time have no real purpose, except for trading them for games, or buying an itunes card. We're waiting for the official shop to be released first.
