a couple questions about rep

can i give unlimited amounts of rep? can you do anything else with rep other than brag? when my thing says "rep: 5" does that mean i have 5 reps or does that mean im on level 5 or something?

yeah i'd like to know also. it says when i click on my rep i have 10 rep points. yet itt only shows as 89.

Yes, you can give unlimited amounts of reputation points.
No, reputation has no other use than to show status.
The number that you see when you post is your 'Reputation Level'. To see the real amount of Rep points that you have, go to your User CP. It is displayed there.
