Lets all bring the hacks together for the most popular version of Windows.
I know a few my cousin taught me..

Creating the perfect, customized XP Desktop doesn't only mean changing icons; it also means removing them. Have you ever tried "deleting" the Recycle Bin from your Desktop?
To customize XP to your liking, you'll want to be avle to delete these protected icons (I'm not sure if they are called icons or 'Desktop Elements'.) To do so, you'll need a Registry hack. Run the Registry Editir(Start>Run>Type regedit>Hit Enter) and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace Here's where you'll find various special desktop icons. They're not listed by name, but instead by this big alpha-numeric thing called CLSID - for example, {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} for the Recycle Bin.
To remove an icon from the desktop, you sinply delete the key of the icon - for example, {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} for the Recycle Bin. Then exit the Registry, go to your Desktop, and press F5 to refresh the screen. The Recycle Bin icon should now be gone.:cool:

Why can't you just drag the recycling bin into into the recycling bin. I know not possible. LOL

Well you can't do it in XP. Cool hack, but how would you get it back if you took it off.

Yeah just drag it down by the time in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Align to grid can not be turned on, though.
