I just downloaded something and scanned it and it said that it had a Trojan Virus?

I am not too computer savvy what does that mean? I torrented the program i wanted and i scanned the rar file and it said that it had a trojan virus. Should i still install it or no?

trojan = not goodness. virus = slimy eweyness. worm = pathetic strong badness. if you see these things, the makers are up to no goodnessness.

A trojan virus is named after the story of the battle of troy where those guys snuck into the city in the wooden horse. what a trojan does is it gets onto you computer disguised as another program. then once you click on it and run it it unloads all kinds of shit such as viruses, adware etc. If I'm not mistaken the difference between a trojan and a worm is that a trojan requires the user to allow it to run before it can unload all the crap and a worm doesn't have to have the user run it....

Depending on the severity of the trojan, it can do some horrible stuff.

My previous experiences:
- Complete Crash of the OS. (Couldn't get passed the HP logo)
- Not a complete crash, but occasionally the BSOD.
- Clean restores, still crashes.

Try to avoid dling things from sites that aren't trusted, and try to background search certain programs if you're feeling uneasy.

What is the program? It's funny because some programs like keyloggers or keygens are considered a trojan horses to anti-virus, but it's perfectly harmless to Windows...

thank god someone mentioned this, I was scrolling through reading all these replies and baffled.
It's a torrent, and the majority of the times with programs your computer WILL report a virus, it's up to you whether or not you want to trust it, but as Matthew said it's most like the keygen or crack that allows you to use that program for free will be recognized as a virus by your antivirus program. If you don't trust your instinct than find a torrent site that allows comments on torrents and read through the comments, but be warned that 9 times out of 10 some retard noob will post back like 5 times saying "DON'T DOWNLOAD VIRUSVIRUSVIRUS". when the only proof is the same thing that you've seen, read through ALL the comments and see if more people say the same thing or disagree with that poster.
I personally install pretty much everything either way, I keep my computer protected enough that I'm not worried about a virus shutting me down, hasn't happened for about 8 years and that was when I shared a computer with my brother....which is bad news bears
If you take my advice and are still unsure, post a link (or PM a link because it my be against ipodhacking's TOS to post links to stuff like that) and I'll give you my opinion
